Insight on Color:
Natural color diamonds can vary in color saturation or strength from very faint to an intense vivid color. Just a slight shift in color strength can make a color diamond significantly more affordable. Strength of color is one of the most important factors in determining the value of a natural color diamond. The value of a natural color diamond typically increases with the intensity of the most prominent color within the diamond. In an attempt to bring some uniformity to the industry description of natural color diamonds, gem analysis laboratories have developed the fancy color diamond color scale to classify the strength or intensity of a diamond's color.
Insight on Carat:
The best way to describe weight is to refer to the United States Dollar. As there are 100 pennies in a Dollar. There are 100 points to a carat. In 1913, the United States initiated the metric carat to equal 0.2 grams and today the entire world utilizes the same unit of measure.
Diamond cut and the precision of faceting a diamond can make a considerable difference in its' cost and long term value. Diamonds are often measured to the thousandth of a carat, then rounded to the hundredth of a carat.
Insight on Cut:
While I trained in Rough Diamond Evaluation, I was personally invited to visit Diamond mines in Lesotho and South Africa. Imagine yourself for a moment, you have two equal rough Diamond crystals. You give each one to a separate Diamond cutter. Will they look the same upon completion? No, this is an art and mastery of a stone. I have cut and polished Diamond; and then I focused on relationships with the finest cutters in the world. Finest stones cry out for a fine cutter.
There are 38.5M possible ratio's to consider just in Diamonds. Further, each gemstone has it's own parameters for cut. Expertise in Cut is essential and you will see the difference in your Haute Jewelery. So will others...
Insight on Clarity:
Almost all diamonds have inclusions, which are natural and internal characteristics. The representation of the grading scale begins with Flawless and ends in Included to the third degree. How does this look realistically? Let’s look at the scale horizontally.
You might ask what is acceptable? The answer depends on the weight and size of the diamond. Many people wonder if clarity affects the stones brightness. This answer is possibly and too many inclusions can impact the recipient.
What am really I seeing when I look at a diamond?
Brilliance = A white flash reflected from the surface of a stone is Brilliance.
Dispersion = The light spectrum seen by the human eye is known as ROY G. BIV = Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. If you have ever seen a crystal prism rotate in a sunny window you have seen the spectrum dance on the walls and ceiling in the room you are in. Much in the same way a diamond displays this same effect except it breaks the spectrum down into a single color. Dispersion is also referred to as “Fire”.
Scintillation = Scintillation is often referred to as “Sparkle”. Think back to a favorite summer vacation on or near the water. Can you remember the way the sun sparkles on the water as it moves?

Diamond Cut
Cut refers to the Degree of Angles, Relationships, Ratio’s and Percentages. There are 38.5 million possible combinations that determine cut grade.
Symmetry
Diamond Symmetry refers to one side looking like the opposite side. Consider the clock. Great symmetry means that 12 will look like 6. 1 will look like 7 etc… ; one half of a diamond to another half of the diamond and each quarter to the opposite quarter.
Polish
Polish requires the expertise of a skilled craftsman in the finishing of a fine diamond. ***
Fluorescence
Long Wave and Short Wave Ultraviolet light can and will reveal what the eye can not see. Diamonds with Fluorescence are not the same as a diamond with NONE or NO fluorescence.
Girdle
The girdle is another of the many important aspects of a diamond. Not only to eliminate chipping, but also to eliminate wasted weight too. Wasted weight results in a higher cost for a lower quality product.
Diamond Grades and Certifications
There isn’t another lab as credible as GIA for grading diamonds. GIA is a non-profit organization with the highest standards in the industry. There are many other labs that attempt to duplicate GIA. However at Dacques every stone goes through our own Gemological Laboratory with Master Color Grading Stones.
